The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a significant honors show approaches, there’s always a clamor to include of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • Another imaginative release missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait generations.
